    Dear Mr. Legend,
My name is Ken Gaines and I am a counselor at El Camino College in Torrance, California. I am writing on behalf of a committee developing a special African American program for the 2015-16 school year. The intent of the program is to inspire, motivate, encourage and educate students, especially concerning the value of college. Students need to know they can learn anything, even though they will face many obstacles, difficulties and setbacks. They also need to learn that they can use these challenges as opportunities to learn, make wise choices and create greater success.
As a sixty year old native Angelino, it has been a real privilege following your long and amazing career. We believe your contribution as a master musician and as an inspirational role model with great character and integrity would make you an unparalleled keynote speaker for students attending our program.
We would, therefore, be very honored if you would consider accepting our invitation to speak to our students. We can discuss an honorarium or fee. Planning is far enough in advance for us that dates and times are flexible, depending on your schedule. However, it would be preferable if arrangements could be made during the month of February, but again, we are definitely willing to work around your busy schedule. The event will last approximately three hours. It is our wish that you speak for about 50 minutes and if you can stay longer, it would be great if students could ask you questions.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at 1-310-532-3670 x3690 or via email at kgaines@elcamino.edu.
We look forward to your reply, an honor for us indeed.
Thank you very much for your consideration.
    Kenneth O. Gaines

    Hi John,

I trust all is well. I run a socially conscious festival called Tandawazi in Kenya. The pitch is: education then celebration – we run workshops in various art forms leading up to a performance at the November one and in Easter it’s all more like retreat.
    Tandawazi means limitless is Kiswahili.

I would like to explore having you come out to Kenya to do some of the educational stuff as well as perform. Immediate options are November 2015 and Easter 2016.

Let me know if you’d be keen to light up the lives of young musicians and light up the crowd in Kenya some time.

I look forward to hearing back from you.

    Dear Mr Legend,
I usually don’t ask for favors from people but i felt like this was an appropriate time, although I have never met you I feel like you should know this. I’ve been working at the Lancaster Marriott and Convention center for about 7 months now and I was recently fired for taking time off to see my sick grandmother in California. I haven’t seen my grandmother in 2 years and she recently had 2 mini-strokes and so i went to California to see her and when she was released from the hospital I stood by her side and took care of here for a couple days. I let my job know that I would not be back home until Friday and to call me with any questions. When I returned home I rested and went to work on Friday like i told them. my boss didn’t say anything to me but today March 14,2015 my boss called me into the office and suspended me till Friday so i can speak to his boss because my boss doesn’t have the authority to fire me. My boss knew i was going to see my sick grandmother and they have the audacity to fire me for going to see her. I think that you coming to the Lancaster Marriott and Convention Center is great for our city but I would just want you to know how this company works

  • JD November 20, 2015, 3:02 am

John Legend you are a cop hating, ignorant, Black Power/Panther sympathizing a**hole. You and Common are idiots. Don’t lecture us on race in America when you align yourself with people who hate white people and label all cops as murderers. Stick to singing songs and entertaining us and shut the hell up when you don’t know your real facts about social injustice or issues that matter in the United States.

  • Dylan Jefferson March 16, 2016, 12:55 pm

FUCK YOU LEGEND!!! You are fucking worthless. 71% of niggers born to single moms. 30% raised by grandma. You niggers are America’s terrorists. Scam the system, kill each other, don’t fucking work. And why do niggers marry out of their race? Cause the fucking nig women are fat, dumb and ugly. And all have kids with multiple baby daddies.

I founded my daughter’s foundation in her memory and for other mothers to remember their daughters or sons, i am behind you , i am also facilitating offenders, it was not easy because i do not have the culprit to achieve closure. With the name of the LORD i am managing, prison is hell. I thank you.

  • Mrs. Richards March 30, 2016, 8:02 pm

I believe Your best vocal is in “All of me” when you sing in low range ( your best)
    ” I am breathing fine”
I Would love to hear more of your new songs in lower range.
Have you considered training for opera or cinema?
With work you will compete with pavorati, Brian stokes Mitchell and Andrea
    Best Regards

  • Van Neal December 17, 2016, 3:21 am

Dear John, my name is Van Neal and I was born and raised in Springfield Ohio and I am the son of the late Ms Barbara Trimble-Neal she was a lif long friend of your Grandmother. I also lived in Western Hill and went to Fulton Elementary school with your Aunt Melanie. The reason for this email is that me and my sister Kelley Neal-Gray have some concerns, you see our father George Milton Neal recently passed away on December 1, 2016. He was a POW from 1951 to 1953. He was awarded the Navy Cross for heroism and the Prisoner of War Medal. We are trying to have our father be awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for his unwavering strength and courage during a rescue mission. The pilot who flew the helicopter doing the mission has been awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor and it seems a little strange that our father was not awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor when in fact him and the pilot both did the same thing. I am sending you a link where you can read the entire article it is http://www.valor.militarytimes.com. I pray that you will be able to assist us on our quest to have our dad get his just due thank you very much John and I hope to hear from you soon.

  • Rene Robinson May 11, 2017, 6:04 pm

    Dear Mr. LEGEND
I saw on CBS this morning that you are very interested in injustice upon minorities. I am from New Jersey, moved to North Carolina due to my mom’s Akzhiemer condition. Unfortunately, she passed in 2015. But, it was not due to her disease, but due to her ethnicity and age. Here they are committing Geriatric Genocide upon our minority elders. Medical malpractice/negligence cases are always being dismissed within the judicial system due to corruption based upon the Big Inurance Companies and their relationship with the Medical Schools here within this state. It just makes it impossible for these problems to be addressed and or corrected. Therefore, the physicians and health organizations within this state never face repercussions to correct the issues that leads to their negligence. Minorities elders are our knowledge that forms our future.

  • Booker Geez May 11, 2017, 7:28 pm

Greating King, my name is Booker Geez and I’m the author of the recently published book Locked Up and Put Away my 10 years as a juvenile counselor. I feel that I can be a valuable resource for your Free America project. My book is a in-depth look at the corruption and trauma that exist in a detentional facility in the Bronx New York from a counselors persective. It’s a great read for youth men of color because it dispels the myth that jail life is cool. In fact, most young men after reading “Locked Up and Put Away”will see how they are prostituing themselve to a system with zero benefits. Please contact me so that I can send you a copy of my book. By the way your music is timeless, keep pleasing our ears.

    Dear Mr. Legend,
My brother has been locked up for 43 years. 30 years of that being an honor inmate.
He’s not healthy and I want to bring him home.
Prison reform? Isn’t 43 years a bit extreme?
I had a parole package done and the Ohio parole board won’t even look at it.
We have to wait for 2 years until his parole comes up again.
He might be dead by then.
You can add us to your reasons for prison reform.

I am from Lexington, Kentucky, home of Les McCann. You recently did a cover of “Compared To What?” with the Roots. GREAT!

Les is still living in LA. He truly deserves recognition for his major contributions to fusion/R&B. Compared to What was, of course, an original, articulated protest song; as appropriate today, considering all the recent Trump fiascos as it was when first recorded in the 1960’s. There was a half/assed attempt to found a School for the Performing Arts in his name here, but I strongly suspect some opportunists are simply trying to set up a 501(C) and rip everyone off.

Elton John recognized Leon Russell in his later years and gave him a personal shot in the arm, as well as calling attention to his major contributions to music.

Considering your social consciousness, and high level of recognition and respect you have earned in the music business, you would be the best one I know to be involved in a recognition/social awareness effort/
Please let me know. I have contact info: Russ Lay. 1-859-948-4687.

Last I heard, he is still able to sing and play for short periods of time. He is in his 80’s, and I just got a copy of a photography book he published.
